Humber College’s First Year Experience (FYE) group organizes college events throughout the academic year to provide students with a good college experience.

“I am very impressed by the efforts put into events by the FYE,” said Geet Kaur Dhaliwal, a second-year student in Humber College’s Computer Technician program.

She said these events helped her relax during stressful college days.

Christopher Sibo, a second-year student in Humber’s Computer Programming, said he’s worked and volunteered for FYE for two years.

“It is an enchanting experience,” Sibo said. He said the experience helped him gain confidence and wonderful memories.

He said there’s always a new event going on and gets to meet different people, which is the best part of the job.

Dhaliwal said she has thoroughly enjoyed each event she has attended organized by FYE, but she was not happy for one reason.

“There was no Holi event, I was really looking forward to it,” she said of the Indian festival.

Nicholas Midiros, in his final semester in the Bachelor of Commerce Marketing program, said he’s worked with FYE for the past eight months and with Student Life since September 2022.

He said that sometimes there’s so much going on that team organizers miss or skip events.

“There’s a lot of cultural events happening all year long,” Midiros said.

He said this is what he loves most about the organization is that it allows organizers to learn and grow.

Midiros said getting to meet people from different cultures and communities has been a confidence booster for him. He said it has helped him gain confidence to be a better version of himself.

“Being more confident is one thing I have added to my skillset after working with this team,” he said.

Sibo agrees.

He said working in a team, you get a lot of different ideas and opinions, and you start to think from a different perspective.

“There’s always great ideas, great discussions, it’s very inspirational to see how much work people put into this community, and what comes out of it,” Sibo said.

He said he feels he has become a lot more creative and has a better sense of teamwork and adapting after working with the organization.

“Food attracts people the most, I know it attracts me for sure,” Sibo said.

He said he loves it when people appreciate and acknowledge the hard work they put into their events.

“I am very fortunate to be a part of this team,” Sibo said.
