Humber College is set to host its 17th Annual 5K Run/Walk on Thursday, April 11 at the Humber North Campus.

Third-semester students from the Fitness and Health Promotions program worked together throughout the year to organize and host the event.

“The goal is to fundraise and all the money goes to an organization known as Stella’s Place, and basically what they do is they are a nonprofit organization that helps support young adults mental health,” race promotor Jade DeLisle said.

Participants will start at the parking lot next to the parking garage, and then run down the path through the Arboretum for 2.5 kilometers. After a water station at the half-way mark, runners will run back for a total of 5K.

This is the third year organizers have held the race for Stella’s Place.

Course instructor Carmen Puyo, said the relationship started when the event returned after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In 2022, the group felt that an organization like Stella’s Place would be perfect because it went towards supporting young adults and mental health,” she said.

“During the pandemic that was the one thing that was affected, especially within their age group. So we decided to go ahead and continue working with them.”

In 2022 they managed to raise up to $2,525.90, this year they’ve already hit that number.

DeLisle said he knows the planning of the event takes a lot of time and effort so for it to be so close to the date, he’s feeling the anticipation .

“There’s promoting it, finding sponsors and the logistics, figuring out the map, just all kinds of small details and that really comes down to the success of the race,” he said.

“I’m really happy with the team that we have. They’re doing a really good job.”

“I just want to bring people together as a team and bring the Humber community together and have a great day,” he said.

“I want people to experience how great running in a 5K race can be, how great it is for their health, and how it can make them feel.”

People who are interested are asked to donate at least 10 dollars and register by April 10, 2024. The run is set to start at noon, with registration beginning at 11 a.m. and warm-ups at 11:45 a.m.
