Humber held an event today to raise money for a Youth Without Shelter, a charity and homless shelter that focuses on homeless youths in Ont.

The event had games snacks and a photo booth, all to raise awareness and funds for Youth Without shelter.

Tracey Grieveson, a professor with the Faculty of Business says that Youth without shelter is partnered with the hospitality event management program who organized the event.

“Our client is Youth Without Shelter, who’s, here within the Etobicoke area they’re actually not too far from campus,” she said, “so these are fourth semester event management students they, end their time with us here at Humber with a practical hands event,” Grieveson said.

Yugmi Patel is one of these event management students and she said that she’s proud of what her and her group have done today.

“We have worked for almost a whole semester and this is our day, it’s show time for us and I think we are doing great, we have so many people, our students who are here to support our event,” she said.

Patel said that proceeds from the event will exclusively go to Youth Without Shelter and that this event also provides a form of advertisement for the organization.

Tracy Grieveson said that there have even been students at Humber who were previously residents of a Youth Without Shelter residence and that the age demographics for both Humber and the shelter are similar.

“It’s pretty much the same demographic as students here at Humber College so Youth Without Shelter, their client base is anywhere between, 18 and about 24,” she said. “We have had in previous years students at Humber College who were residents of Youth Without Shelter, so it’s really kind of to raise awareness within the community, but also within the student community as well” Grieveson said.

Himanshu Thakur, a cloud computing student participated in the event and says that he enjoyed his time and sees the good cause that the event is supporting.

Thakur said that he will be donating to future causes when he can.

“I’m a person who loves to participate in these kind of things and right now I’m a student but once I start earning some money, I would definitely love to contribute to this community who of people who need help,” he said.

Dola Olu-aminu a third year tourism student at Humber said that the event is good to support the community.

“This is what we can do for our community, right? We have to support,” she said, “This is how we can give back to the community by supporting the community,” Olu-aminu said.
