With Humber College’s Open House coming up right around the corner, faculty and program coordinators have been taking the time to plan the event for prospective, and current Humber students.

The event is set to take place on Saturday at both the college’s North and Lakeshore campuses from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors can walk-in or register online.

Joy Borman, Manager of Student Recruitment and Advertising told Humber News that a wide range of events will be happening during the Open House.

“There are just over 200 different sessions planned,” she said, adding that “there’s a higher number than we’ve had in the past for the number of information sessions, which is pretty exciting.”

Borman said that the most important thing about Open House is allowing the students to be able to see the facilities they’ll be in.

“We very rarely are able to get people into specific labs. But during that day, students can get into the labs and actually see the equipment, talk to the people that work in the labs, and talk to the students who use those labs,” Borman said.

And Open House is “not just for students that have never been to Humber,” Borman said.

“It’s a really good event for current students that might be at the end of their program, and may be not sure on what they’re going to do next year. For students that might be considering taking another credential, they’re welcome to come and learn about other faculties. It’s not just for students that have never been to Humber.”

Borman said it takes months to plan the event, as coordination is needed for both Humber campuses. In the past an estimated 5500 prospect and current students attend Open House each year.

Adriana Araujo, Faculty Event Coordinator for the Faculty of Media and Creative Arts told Humber News that a lot of specific planning has gone into preparing media programs for the April 15 event.

“We will have a presence on both campuses, because we have 48 programs as a faculty. So, we are one of the biggest faculties at Humber,” Araujo said.

Araujo said the North campus will be heavily focused on design with a big presence on the Barrett Center for Technology Innovation.

“At the North Campus, we will be very heavily focused on design. So, we will have a big presence on the Barrett Center, where plus prospects and future students can see the labs, can go on tours and see all the new technology that Humber is offering, which is something that really sets us apart,” Araujo said.

“We also have Journalism, we have Radio Programs, we have the Film and TV program and we will also have labs,” she said, adding that “we have studios and we

Araujo noted that this will be the second in person Open House since the lockdown days of the pandemic.

“I hope it goes great. Last year we had the first Open House in person since the pandemic, that was in person again and it was a success. “

And participants, she said, come to play.

The event at the North campus officially runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., she said, “but we noticed that parents and prospective students started arriving since 9:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.,” Araujo said.

“Everybody is so engaged,” she said.
