Piktochart: Canada and U.S. dominate IIHF Women’s World championships

Apr 13, 2023 | Sports

Team Canada and team United States women’s hockey have faced off once again in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women’s World Cup Championship.

This is just the most recent battle for the two teams, however. They have had a monopoly over the number one and two spots in the tournament for decades.

They have played each other a total of 33 times, and it is a relatively even split between who takes home gold.

Canada holds the title of having most wins in the IIHF women’s worlds, having won gold a total of 12 times.

But the U.S. gives Canada a run for their money every year, as they seem to always end up alongside them as runner-ups.

Their most recent face off happened in Brampton, Ont., on April 10, where Canada snagged the win in penalty shootouts.
