Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland unveiled the federal budget on March 28, with a round of new initiatives and additional funding amid high-rising cost of living.

The budget for this financial year focused on three main goals, making life more affordable, strengthening public and dental health care, and developing a green economy.

The announcement includes a one-time “grocery rebate,” which doubles the existing GST rebate for low-income Canadians and is expected to receive $467 for eligible families.

The federal government also proposed a new $13 billion national dental care program for families with incomes under $90,000 a year to fulfill its liaison commitment with the NDP.

The Liberal government also plans to increase incentives for investments in developing the country’s green economy, such as a 15 per cent refundable tax credit for investments in clean electricity, such as wind, hydro, and nuclear projects.

The budget also offered a 30 per cent refundable tax credit for investments in clean technologies manufacturing, including purchasing machinery and equipment for manufacturing or processing key clean technologies.
