Students at Humber are advising new learners coming to Humber on what to expect.
Many domestic and international students will be starting their first semester this fall and are preparing themselves for college life.
First year can be a stressful year because you don’t know where to go, where to start, how to manage or make new friends.
Randeep Kaur is in her second-year in Early Childhood program and shared her thoughts on how to survive the first year of Humber.
“My advice for the first-year students would be to not be afraid to ask questions and like reach out if u need help theres like lots of resources to help you,” said Kaur.
Surya Karan Sharma, who is Information Technology Solutions, shares his advice for first year students.
“I would say just get involved on campus a lot and do volunteer work and talk to a lot of people even if it’s awkward at first just talk,” said Sharma.
Kaila Reneel Leopore Lell is a second-year student in the baker apprenticeship and shared her experience on going into first year.
“Being very prepared for class and especially with your tools always know what you need to do, always always ask questions that’s very important, don’t be shy. The best thing is to do is mostly ask questions,” said Lell.
Professors can be helpful when it comes to asking for an extension or support.
Leandra Acevedo who is in the Longo Faculty of Business, gives advice for the first year students.
“My advice to new students is to get involved as possible from associations to curricular activities so you can build a community,” said Acevedo.
Humber College has many resources out there to help you with anything and reach out to them whenever you need help.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. It’s always okay to ask for help.
