IGNITE to hold ‘paperless’ hiring day, no resume required.

Students looking for part-time work for IGNITE next year had the chance to apply at the LRC …

But they were told – to leave the resume at home.

Jordyn Dias-McGown, Operations Manager at IGNITE said this served as a great way to implement their sustainability goals.

“In the past we’ve had paper interviews and we’ve told our students to bring in their resumes,” she said. “So we thought this could be a way that we would be able to still have the event but decrease on our paper waste.”

Potential applicants were told to fill out their applications and send their resumes online ahead of the event, instead of the typical norm of bringing in their resumes in person.

Dias-McGown said while IGNITE’s selection process is fair and equal for all candidates, it is striving to meet a set of goals for under-represented groups.

“We have specific D.I goals for our African-American part-time staff, as well as our international/domestic staff. So we, each year, ensure we are hiring specifically for those under-represented groups and ensuring that our recruitment support that as well,” Dias-McGown said.

She added any student who gets an interview will be asked questions both about their skills and experience, as well as their knowledge and familiarity with IGNITE itself.

Dias-McGown said guidance will be provided should a candidate lack some of their skills they’re looking for.

“We are able to support students even if they don’t necessarily have all of the experience. IGNITE is totally OK to take them on and help guide them,” she said.

Depending on the requirements of the position, individuals must start in May or August. Students must be enrolled at Humber or the University of Guelph for the Fall 2023 semester in order to apply for a Summer or Fall/Winter position.
