Reading Week: What’s Open at Humber’s Lakeshore Campus

Feb 24, 2022 | Campus News

Heading into reading week (Feb. 28 to March 6), Lakeshore campus staff are assuring students they will still have access to amenities on campus.

Alex Hoa, assistant manager of Cafe Linx and Retail Services told Humber News there will still be food options available, but they may have reduced hours.

She said that the Lake Café will be open, beginning on Saturday, Feb. 26 to Friday, March 4 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

By March 5 and 6, it will be open during its regular hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

You won’t be able to get a double-double: the Tim Hortons location will be closed during Reading Week, and will only reopen March 7.

“The reason why we made this decision was because there’s actually not enough foot traffic to that location,” she said, “We’re actually not seeing that many students and teachers coming through that space.”

Hoa also mentions that other local business-owned food services will be open during their regular hours for the week.

Lakeshore campus’s athletics, much like North campus’s athletics will be open, as well as the bookstore.

The Lakeshore library will also have both in-person services such as access to collections, computers and printers, and study space on Monday & Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you don’t want to head to campus, the library’s online services include electronic articles, ebooks, databases, and helpful research tutorials found on their website at library.humber.ca.

Students also have the option of using askON, the library’s research chat service, to get help from a Humber staff member, which is available Monday-Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday-Sundays.

In an email to Humber News, the head of PR for IGNITE, Emmaline Scharbach, says the student government will still offer its normal services during reading week, including clubs, tax clinics, and its Soupbar program.
