Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and urged everyone to get their vaccinations and booster shots.

The news on Trudeau’s health status came after Trudeau began self-isolating last week when he said that his son had tested positive.

“Two of my own children have now contracted it and this morning, I learned I tested positive for COVID-19 as well,” said Trudeau.

“I feel well and have no symptoms,” he said.

Trudeau’s wife revealed she was COVID positive in March 2020.

The prime minister said it was a reminder to everyone on the impact of COVID.

“This pandemic is not over, we have to be there for one another,” said Trudeau.

He again called for Canadians to get vaccinated and boosted to lessen the challenge facing everyone.

“It’s a challenge me and my family are facing but there’s nothing unusual or special about it. It’s a challenge too many Canadians and people around the world know all too well,” said Trudeau.

In fact, the PM is one of beyond three million Canadians who have tested positive.

He said he will continue working from isolation and following the public health guidelines.

Health Canada requires people to isolate themselves in the cases of:

  • Having demonstrated symptoms of COVID-19, whether mild or otherwise.
  • Having been in contact with someone who has tested positive or is awaiting their results.
  • Testing positive or awaiting results.

If you have to isolate when you live with other people Health Canada states to avoid sharing living spaces, such as washrooms or living rooms and to not share personal items.

To maintain general well-being, Health Canada recommends exercising, having a balance diet, and keeping in contact with friends and family virtually.

Trudeau joins an ever-expanding list of political officials who have been diagnosed with the virus, including former U.S. president Donald Trump, United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and France’s President Emmanuel Macron.
