Hayley Wickenheiser will bear the flag for Canada during the opening ceremonies in Sochi on Feb. 7th.
The 35-year old Saskatchewan native brings an impressive Olympic resume – three gold medals and one silver – that also includes an appearance on the women’s softball team in the 2000 summer Olympics in Sydney. Her last three Games resulted in gold medals in women’s ice hockey.
She was stripped of her captaincy last month and instead will be an assistant captain in Sochi.
Wickenheiser holds the women’s record in international games played, goals, and assists.
Below is a timeline of Canada’s flag bearers since 1972.
