Porter Airlines More Popular Than Ever

Porter Airlines is flying high today!

The Toronto company has been named the best small airline in the world by the readers of Conde (KON-DEE) Nast Traveler magazine.

Nearly 80 thousand people participated in the annual reader’s choice awards survey.

President and CEO of Porter Airlines, Robert Deluce, says they are proud to represent Toronto and hope to make the Porter experience available to even more passengers across North America in the coming years.

The airline is currently looking into expanding operations at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, and Porter is also suggesting expanding the runway.

Bixi Bikes

The City of Toronto is attempting to save the Bixi bike-share program.

The company that runs the program has been given until November 13 to reach a deal with the city or face bankruptcy.

Public Works Committee Chair Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong says that Bixi is making things difficult by changing terms and asking for unreasonable things.

If the Bixi bike-sharing program can’t be saved, Toronto will lose $3.9 million.

Halloween Safety

It’s calling to be a dark and wet Halloween this evening for all trick-or-treaters.

Toronto Police are asking people to keep safe tonight with some tips.

They include putting reflective material on costumes, not trick-or-treating alone, and kids should stay in their neighbourhoods.

There are also free halloween safety apps for smartphones.

“Mamabear” is among one of them, and helps keep track of kids. It simply allows the see them on a map and receive alerts in they cross pre-set boundaries.

The app also checks into Facebook or Instagram, and alerts when they are in a speeding vehicle.

BoSox win World Series

In major league baseball, the Boston Red Sox completed their turn around, winning the World Series last night by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1.

Last season, the Red Sox finished last in the American League East with a 69-93 record. At the end of the 2012 season, then-manager Bobby Valentine was fired at season’s end, and the Red Sox sought Toronto Blue Jays manager John Farrell to fill the role.

Farrell took the job with the Red Sox, and, under his tutelage, the team turned things around.

The Red Sox finished this season with an incredible 97-65 record, and finished the season atop the AL East.

The World Series championship is the third in the last ten years for the once drought-ridden team.

Raptors get W in opener

The Toronto Raptors opened their season last night with a 93-87 victory over the visiting Boston Celtics.

A dominant second quarter and Rudy Gay’s team high 19 points helped the Raptors take their season opener. In the win, Amir Johnson and DeMar DeRozan each netted 13 points and off-season acquisition Tyler Hansbrough led the way with 12 rebounds.

The Raptors are looking to break their five year playoff drought this season, and build off of a disappointing 2012-13 campaign where the team finished with a 34-48 record.
