The celebration of local craft beer kicked off Friday in the 5th annual Toronto Beer Week.

“There is something for everyone,” said Gabriel Nijmeh in an e-mail interview. “From the most seasoned craft beer drinker to those who are new and curious.”

Nijmeh, who handles partnerships and events and manages the Beer Week website and social media accounts, has been with organization for three years now.

“For us, it’s always about offering that premium experience and connecting and educating old and new craft beer drinkers,” said Holly Postlethwaite of Steam Whistle Brewery in an e-mail interview.

Thirty-five different craft brewers will be showcased over nine days. There are also 70 bars, pubs and restaurants participating in the events.

Beer Week is featuring its first annual Toronto Craft Brew Cruise. While guests coast the waterfront for three hours, they are given a tasting session.

Another first this year is the Sacred Oak: A Night of Barrel Aged Beers. Nijmeh expects it “will be a sellout because of how rare and exclusive these beers are.”

The successful festival gives opportunity for people in the city to create amazing, new experiences. People should embrace and check out all the city has to offer.

“We take great pride when we see new people and bar/restaurants discovering craft beer for the first time,” said Nijmeh.

Beer Week can also be proud about bringing awareness to great causes with their charity events, including Toronto Beer Run and Craft Your Change.

“It’s through education and celebration that people can discover the great craft beers of Toronto,” said Postlethwaite.
