Commuters can get their daily exercise by climbing a six-metre Spider-Man web at Union Station.

On Wednesday and Thursday, kids and adults can test what kind of upper-body strength it takes to be a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

The event is promoting the Marvel Comics’ hero’s latest movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming, that swings into theatres on Friday, July 7.

“It’s a lot harder than it looks, it takes a lot of strength but it was a cool experience,” former television news host Nneka Elliott said.

Elliott and her friend former Degrassi show star, Corey Lee, showed their excitement for meeting Spider-Man and said they are always willing to try new things.

The social media influencers climbed the web to the top to take selfies.

“It’s super fun plus it’s free and you get to meet Spider-Man, so I really recommend it,” Lee said.

Every day 250,000 people pass through Union Station West Wing, Canada’s busiest pedestrian building, where the event is being held.

Climbers who show their agility and get to the top will find Sony’s newest smartphone from the Xperia line waiting for them to try.

“We have the Xperia XA1 Ultra to take your selfie. You just put the palm of your hand and wave and there it is, a nice selfie,” said Rob Vongxay, product marketing manager at Sony Canada.

Only children over the age of seven are allow to climb the net, which is supervised by professional stunt instructors.

Aspiring arachnids suit up in harnesses and are guided up the wall by staff. For those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, Spider-Man is around to take pictures and show off his spider senses.

Commuters showed their excitement for the giant web and for the release of Spidey’s new movie.

“We are Spider men,” Lee said. But she stopped for a moment and looked at Elliott and they said together: “But really, we are Spider women.”

The event goes from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday.
