The Toronto-based media company is looking for a new CEO after Nadir Mohamed announced his retirement.

Rogers CEO Nadir Mohamed has announced his retirement from the media company in January 2014.

Mohamed took over as CEO in 2009 after founder Ted Rogers passed away in 2008.

Rogers one of the biggest media companies in Canada, is also one of the leading providers of TV, internet and phone services.

Edward Rogers, Deputy Chairman and Chair of Rogers Control Trust had nothing but great things to say about Mohamed in a Toronto Star article.

“Nadir skillfully led the company during an extraordinary time of change in our history and the history of our industry,” Edward Rogers told the Star.

The Rogers board of directors is forming a search committee to fill the title of CEO when Mohamed steps down.

Mohamed said in his statement he would help the board make this a smooth transition for the company while he stays as CEO for the rest of 2013.

Mohamed joined the Rogers team in 2000, as its chief operating officer before becoming its CEO

The CBC reported that since Mohamed became CEO in March 2009 Rogers has become Canada’s largest wireless carrier.

“Nadir is a highly regarded executive who has delivered strong results and substantial value for more than a decade,” chairman of the board of Rogers Communications Inc. Alan Horn told the CBC.

Despite rumors that Mohamed is stepping down due to the family’s request, Mohamed was adamant in a report by The Globe and Mail that there is no bad blood between him and the Rogers family.

“Absolutely categorically my choice … I know it sounds like I am repeating, but I’m really feeling good about our achievements over the last 12 years as a team. So, (I am) very proud of what has been accomplished. It feels right.”
