Humber College is offering an opportunity for students to earn an academic credit and expand their skills in a three-week-intensive summer course with students from around the globe.

“The program brings both non-Humber and Humber students together as part of a three-week program to take academic courses here at Humber, hosted by all six faculties,” said Stephanie Byer, Manager of Global Learning and Engagement at Humber College.

“Students, both non-Humber and Humber are able to come together and earn an academic credit,” Byer told Humber News.

Students are able to choose from a variety of summer courses for their credit.

“For non-Humber students, we have nine courses available. And for Humber students, there are eight courses, and that’s just because for non-Humber we also have a three-week summer language program course,” Byer said.

The Humber Global Summer School runs from July 4-21 with students able to earn their needed credit during that time.

“It still equals the same amount of course hours as students would be taking in a full semester, just condensed over that three-week period. So students would still be in class, or have that contact teaching hours of 42 hours,” said Byer.

The program is designed to encourage students to make a positive difference while earning credits and building their international network in only three weeks.

“They take part in evening social activities. And then we have a full social calendar as well throughout those three weeks,” Byer said.

Past students shared their experiences with the program on the Humber Global Summer School website.

“I saw all the different course options and they seemed really interesting. I looked into the Health and Wellness Concepts course, and it described exactly what I wanted to do,” Akaila Reid, a Bachelor of Child and Youth Care student, wrote.

Students that do not attend Humber but attend schools across the globe also shared their experiences online.

“It was my first experience at a Canadian institution, and I was introduced to a different kind of thinking. It wasn’t just skills – the course really opened my mind.” said Nancy Hwang, from Hunan University in China.

Weekly online info sessions are open to anyone interested in joining the program, registration for Summer 2023 will begin the week of March 27, 2023.
