Humber and Guelph-Humber students have until this Friday to upgrade their insurance plan through IGNITE.

Humber’s dental clinic provides everything from x-rays to routine teeth cleanings and the insurance provided to students through IGNITE covers a majority of services.

“A lot of students that are coming in are opted into the insurance, come in to find out what services are provided and they want to do the cleanings or a regular exam,” said Sapna Kankotiya, a receptionist for Campus Dental.

“We provide things like x-rays and teeth whitening,” she said.

Campus Dental, Hygiene and Dentistry are open not just to Humber and Guelph- Humber students and staff but to the general public as well.

Campus dental offers a range of services from preventive to restorative treatments, as well as, more advanced services like veneers and crowns. They have a location at both Humber North and Lakeshore campuses.

“We’re all professionals hired from outside of Humber,” said Amanda Toste, a receptionist for Campus Dental.

The basic insurance plan covers things like prescriptions, some eye care costs, and dental care, which can be used at any clinic not just the ones on campus.

Depending on the plan you choose will affect your costs and whether you add any family members will also contribute to the costs of the insurance.

A student is able to add a spouse and or any children to the plan for an extra fee.

“They have to pay to opt-in for first semester then they have to do it again next semester. So if they opt in September, they have to opt-in again in January,” said Toste.

The basic auto plan every student gets added to their tuition costs is possible to opt out of.

However, if they do not want to pay for the insurance coverage for the full year they have to be act at the start your academic year.

Whether in September or January if students do not want the fee to be added to their tuition costs they must prove they have other insurance coverage whether from their work or parents and choose to opt-out on the MyHumber website.

“Students must opt out at the beginning of their academic year they cannot opt out second semester,” said Nicole Welan, IGNITE receptionist.

Students who started last September and didn’t provide proof of other insurance and chose to opt-out will have to pay this semester’s fee.

Those starting their academic year this January have the option to opt-out by later this week on Feb. 17, or they are automatically charged the fee.

Also if they are planning to add a child or spouse to their plan they must have them opted in by the deadline to have coverage for the semester.
