Humber College is hosting an event this week called Talking about Pleasure, Consent, and Casual Sex with Luna Matatas which will be held over Zoom Thursday, March 31 from 3:00-4:30 pm.

This will be the kick-off of many events to come in April, which is Sexual Awareness Month.

According to the organizers, the event will talk about:

  • How do we set expectations and boundaries for casual sex?
  • When does consent start?
  • Owning your ‘yes’ and your ‘no’
  • How do you discover what you like and how to describe it to others
  • Practicing verbal and non-verbal feedback
  • How to let go of performing and be a partner instead
  • Learn how to get pleasure from giving
  • Navigating shame and rejection to make space for more pleasure.

This event is in partnership with Mohawk College’s Sexual Violence Education and Prevention program.

Christopher Mahon, Sexual Violence prevention and education coordinator at Humber, started this event to inform the college community about the importance of sex education and how important consent is in all relationships.

“A lot of what is going to be talked about we wanted to bring knowledge about both consent but also pleasure to students, staff, and faculty,” he told Humber News on Wednesday.

The event will be led by Luna Matatas who is a Toronto-based Sex and Pleasure Educator for over 15 years to help teach about sex and empowerment workshops.

Matatas, according to the media release about the event, also empowers and motivates people on “body confidence, self-adoration and building shame-free pleasure in and out of the bedroom.”

“I hope that on top of everything students take away that sex is not a taboo thing, that consent is an extremely important thing, and that it should always be present in any type of relationship, whether that’s hooking up, relationships, kissing or any kind of sexual behavior,” said Mahon

“On top of that I also want to make sure that people understand that casual sex, hooking up, sex in general, and asking for what you want are not taboo things,” he said.

“These are things that we should be discussing with our students, ourselves, our partners to recognize that these are important things for our lives and our sex lives,” said Mahon.

The next event that will be held as a free online event Called Move to heal: Trauma-Informed Yoga which will help participants stretch their bodies to realize the trauma that is being held and you will leave the class a feeling of relief.

The first class will be held on March 31 and then on April 7, 14, and 21 from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.
