Gul Chopra jumped at the chance to walk on the runway again.

“I’ve always wanted to do something in fashion, and I obviously want to gain experience with it,” said the Fashion Arts & Business student and former model.

“It’s a great opportunity, and obviously Humber is famous for its shows and all of the fashion.”

Humber’s Fashion Arts and Business held a casting call Thursday for its spring fashion show, named ‘Awakening.’

“After COVID we wanted to have something really upbeat.” said Cayla O’Brien, the show’s project manager, “and just, kinda moving forward with positivity.”

O’Brien also hoped to find models to be able to convey that kind of message.

“It’s kinda a new experience,” Mykyta Bobrovskyi, a Hospitality student at Humber said as he left his audition.

“I didn’t have previous experience, so that’s the reason why I came here to get it.”

Organizers advertised the event through posters around campus featuring a QR code that would link interested students to a Google form where they filled out information such as their measurements and if they have modelled before.

These posters were how Kenneth Padilla, a Fitness and Health Promotions student found out about it, saying that it was “cool that the fashion program is doing a casting call.”

“This is my first casting call,” Padilla continued, “and I was like ‘it sounds like a good opportunity to see what it’s like to be on the runway’.”.

O’Brien told Humber News that they’re aiming to select 10 to 15 models for the fashion show.

“We just to be very inclusive with our models,” she said, “So, we’re really diverse with body types and everything.”

“It’s a really good turnout, and it’s nice to get the students involved,” O’Brien said in between models coming in.
