Toronto police say a man has died after a shooting in Toronto’s Lawrence Manor neighbourhood on Wednesday night, and they are seeking help from the public to assist in their investigation.

The shooting happened near Bathurst Street and Ranee Avenue, just after 11:30 p.m.

The man who died has been identified as 33-year-old Shannon Stanford of Toronto. There were sounds of gunshots and police attended the scene, police said in a news release.

When they arrived on the scene police located a vehicle with a solo occupant inside suffering what appeared to be a gunshot wound, they said.

“As the investigation continues, we will release any particulars about possible suspects and so forth,” Insp. Mike McGinn said in a media briefing.

He said that the victim lived in the area.

Reports said officers could be seen blocking off the streets near the area where the shooting took place, investigating the scene to collect evidence and going over the surveillance cameras around the neighbourhood.

Police said Stanford’s death marks the 58th homicide of the year.
