With more COVID-19 cases popping up around the world, preventive measures and the cancellation of many events and day to day activities are being put in place.
Ontario just announced that they would be closing over 4,800 schools throughout the province, impacting two million students. There has been no announcement yet about post-secondary institutions.
With winter semester wrapping up in mid-April for most post-secondary schools around the country, students are on edge and in the dark of what could happen in the next coming weeks.
Humber College students voiced their concerns online, asking for the College to close their doors.
Humber College released a statement on their website yesterday saying :
“Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely and will continue to provide updates to the community. We are actively engaging with Toronto Public Health and reviewing information from various Canadian health authorities to ensure that we are prepared and responding to ongoing changes with respect to the health and safety of our students.”
So far, universities such as Harvard, Princeton and Laurentian University in Sudbury have closed their doors and moved their classes online to combat the spread of the virus while companies like Google and Twitter were among the first to ask their employees to not come in.
Ireland and France also announced that all of their schools and universities would be closed due to the virus.
For now, students and employees around the world will have to see how this could further affect their lives as more information continues to pour in.
