New York rapper Pop Smoke was killed during a home invasion at a Hollywood, California, residence on Wednesday.

A group of people, including one wearing a mask and armed with a handgun, burst into a Hollywood Hills home and shot the rapper early Wednesday morning, police said.

Los Angeles Police Department detectives were still trying to determine the motive of the attack, which stunned the rap world.

“There is a lot of information available,” said LAPD Captain Jonathan Tippet.

“We have some work to do.”

The 20-year-old rapper whose real name is Bashar Barakah Jackson, inadvertently posted his address on instagram while he was staying at the property.

When officers received a tip and arrived at the $2.5-million home they found the rapper with gunshot wounds.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police detained several people inside the house, but they were later released.

At least four suspects fled the scene, and authorities say they have not been found.

Jackson’s friend Mike Dee, who also appeared in the Instagram post said he has no connection with the rapper’s murder after rumours were circulating that he was involved.

“Ya’ll dont kno whats going on ya’ll come on here playing investigator and bashing me on the internet, I would never in my life set my brother up,” he said on Instagram.

Jackson collaborated with artists such as: Chris Brown, Travis Scott, Quavo and H.E.R on recent projects.

His second mixtape, “Meet the Woo 2,” debuted last week at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 charts.

Pop Smoke said he always dreamed of the big life.

“You like nice things, you got to do things to get nice things,” he said.

“At 16, I had a 5 Series (BMW).”

A candlelight vigil was held by family members and friends in the rappers old home in the Boroughs of Brooklyn last night.
