In a historic event that hasn’t happened in over 20 years, the four Ontario teachers’ unions held a one day strike on Friday.
All major teachers’ unions from high school and elementary to English and French language educators are out of the classroom and instead hitting the picket lines to strike against education cuts, class sizes, wages caps, and mandatory e-learning courses.
The last time all four major teachers’ union have engaged in a walk-out at the same was back in 1997.
Collectively, 30,000 members make up all four teachers’ unions, and all of them hit the streets and cities of Ontario to send a message to the provincial government. One of the larger teacher rallies was held Friday at Toronto’s Queen’s Park.
