Twelve Canadians have become newly infected with coronavirus “COVID-19” on the Diamond Princess cruise ship off the coast of Japan.
The 12 Canadians who contracted the virus have been moved to Japanese health facilities, and at least three required hospitalization, CTVNews reported Friday.
In all, 218 passengers and ship crew members have been confirmed positive of coronavirus out of the 700 people tested. And, 3,500 people are on board the ship, which has remained under quarantine since Jan. 20.
Elderly passengers who have tested negative for the virus have been given permission to leave the ship because of a risk the virus could spread to people with past immune problems.
The Diamond Princess stopped sailing on Jan. 20 and has become the single biggest outbreak location outside of the epicentre in Wuhan, China.
Currently, coronavirus “COVID 19” has killed 1,383 people and infected close to 65,000 worldwide.
With five quarantine days remaining, Diamond Princess staff have been entertaining passengers by encouraging them to walk for limited amounts of time around the ship for exercise and dancing to keep active.
Valentine’s Day on the ship did not go unnoticed as the Princess crew provided passengers with treats and roses, the captain of the ship also read a poem.
