YouTube boxing: How it became a phenomenon
The second professional boxing fight by YouTubers ended quickly, but won’t be the last match involving two prominent social media personalities.
During Thursday’s fight, YouTuber Jake Paul beat AnEsonGib with a first round TKO.
The match was ended during the 40 second mark of the first round.
“Jake got the win and it’s a bit (tough) pill to swallow but it is what it is,” Gib told the YouTube channel SecondsOut.
“I trained as hard as I could but fair play for Jake to get the win and that’s about it.”
Paul is famous on for making daily vlogs from 2016-2018 and being a public nuisance in his neighbourhood. He currently has 19 million YouTube subscribers.
He will get the opportunity to face KSI. Also known as JJ, KSI’s real name is Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji. He is Youtuber known for making FIFA videos and currently has 21 million subscribers.
KSI is also an artist and a boxer and is 2-0-1 with one TKO.
Paul told Sky Sports Boxing his team is working on a date for an eventual match with KSI
“I don’t know when it’s going to happen,” Paul told the YouTube channel. “I’m going to talk to my team to get it done this year,”
The phenomenon of YouTubers getting involved in boxing, started with KSI and Joe Weller. Both wanted to prove that one of them was the best at boxing.
KSI won that debate by beating Weller on Feb. 3, 2018. After the fight, he then challenged Jake and Logan Paul to a boxing match.
Logan accepted the fight with KSI that took place last Aug. 28, 2019. Jake fought KSI’s brother Deji at the event.
Jake beat Deji while the KSI and Logan Paul fight ended in a draw.
The rematch between Logan and KSI took place last November. KSI won the fight in a split decision.
