The federal government launched the Canada Business App with the aim to develop and make small businesses accessible to new markets.
It was launched by Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion, in Markham on Monday.
“When small businesses in communities across the country succeed, our economy grows and middle-class jobs are created,” she said in a news release.
According to Innovation, Science and Economic Development, the small and medium scale businesses are employing 10 million employees across the country. The app was created to offer a push and make them popular on a global platform.

The Canada Business App is part of the Government’s efforts to make the business world easier for entrepreneurs. Before this app, the government started working with credit card companies to reduce the interest rate for entrepreneurs across the country.
“This is a small business–friendly government that is working hard to reduce red tape and make it easier for Canadian small business owners to start up, scale up, and access new markets,” Ng said.
Entrepreneurs can easily access the government’s latest updates, funding, permits and licenses, tax forms, application forms for grants and can also hire employees through the mobile application.
The app also helps users design their own calendars with important dates of announcements and also have a chat with experts for recommendations to scale up their businesses. The users can navigate through the government policies and various tax rates.
“We are happy that the government has started to work in this type of ecosystem with entrepreneurs. We support the initiative and hope this will help the startups get information easier and faster without visiting multiple websites,” said Danny Brennan, Director of the Entrepreneur Program in the Toronto Business Development Centre.
The federal government launched an online portal last year that helps Canadian innovators get access to services such as grant information, wage subsidies, and expert advice to solve problems.
The news release states that the advanced features in the app will help businesses navigate through government services and making information available at one-stop.
“The app’s early access period provides users with a look at how the Government of Canada is improving service delivery to meet the expectations of Canadians,” said Derek Mellon, Media Relations Manager of the Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
The government is collecting feedback from users to make the application more flexible and informative.
They are planning to upgrade the app in coming months with additional features. “We will be refining the early release edition of the mobile app to enhance the user’s experience,” he said.
The Canada Business App is available for free on Google Play and the iOS App Store.
“Small business owners are the backbone of Canadian economy,” Brennan said. “Making it easy for these business owners to access government programs and services can make a big difference as they work to scale their companies.”
