For centuries, women in China deformed their feet in order to be appealing to men. The practice of binding feet at an early age has resulted in broken bones, rotted toes and death. What used to be called the Golden Lotus Feet is now seen as a cruel traditional practice of the past. Only 10 women are left in the world with bound feet, but how and why deforming feet was a sign of sophistication and upper class is explained here.
