An international opportunity has arisen for all Humber students, both domestic and international, that has opened doors in Japan, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
The Humber Global Learning Hub is officially open for business. This new opportunity will help with Humber’s international recruitment and its overall diversification of the student community.
It will also provide many opportunities for domestic Humber students and faculty alike to study abroad and obtain professional experience.
Andrew Leopold, director of communications, said that the idea of growing a worldwide following was part of Humber’s strategic plan that launched last year.
“The idea of growing our global presence became a significant part of that strategic plan and the strategic pillars,” Leopold said.
“It also became part of our vision and mission of transforming postsecondary education through global polytechnic leadership.”
Leopold also said that the college has a mission of developing global citizens with the appropriate knowledge and skills.
Humber is using the opportunity to develop Global Learning Hubs to build on international student recruitment.
It is also using this opportunity to provide the appropriate work and professional development opportunities abroad for students and faculty alike.
“The Global Learning Hubs help to bring students from other countries to Humber,” Leopold said.
“And then, there are other programs that Humber students can take to study abroad.”
The Global Learning Hub will occur in three locations in Asia where Humber has partnerships with polytechnic institutions.
The three partners include the National Economics University in Hanoi, Vietnam; HungKuang University in Taichung, Taiwan; and Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan.
The Hub also functions to serve as a centre for learning English as a second language. Such training will provide Humber credentials and pathways to more advanced studies.
“What this program will do is we’re going to offer a range of jointly-delivered programs including English language training and ESL in those markets,” Leopold said.
He said that this will hopefully help other people in those countries to improve their English.
“Hopefully, that helps them study whether it’s abroad study at Humber or another institution that improves their overall opportunities to stay in post-secondary in a post-secondary setting,” Leopold said.
The first Global Learning Hub is set to open for business in Hanoi starting in April 2019.
