As Toronto Police forensic experts continue to scour property in Leaside for evidence in a serial murder investigation, Durham Region Police announced they found the DNA of a second woman in an Oshawa home in a separate investigation.
Last week, Toronto Police returned to the property on Mallory Crescent connected to accused serial killer Bruce McArthur, where the remains of multiple men were discovered in planters.
The 66-year-old McArthur was arrested by Toronto Police on Jan. 18 after being connected to the disappearances of two men. He has since been charged with eight counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of eight missing men.
The majority of the missing men had ties to Toronto’s gay village.
Selim Esen, Andrew Kinsman, Soroush Mahmudi, Skandaraj Navaratnam, Abdulbasir Faizi, Dean Lisowick, Kirushnakumar Kanagaratnam, and Majeed Kayhan all disappeared between 2010 and 2017.
While Kayhan’s remains have never been found, the remains of the other seven were discovered through excavations on the Mallory Crescent property. McArthur, a self-employed landscaper, worked on the property in the past and stored equipment there.
The renewed investigation on Mallory Crescent comes at the same time as traces of a missing woman’s DNA have turned up in an Oshawa property where another woman’s remains were found.

In a separate case involving more than one death, Durham police investigating a McMillan Drive home, in the Bond and Centre Streets area of Oshawa, found the DNA profile of Kandis Fitzpatrick, an 18-year-old Oshawa woman last seen in 2008. Remains of 18-year-old Rori Hache were found in the same home last December, Durham Police said.
Hache’s remains were discovered on the property after her torso was recovered in Lake Ontario in September 2017. She was pregnant at the time of her death.
Police have not revealed any details concerning the nature of the most recent evidence. Fitzpatrick is the second known Oshawa woman to be connected to the property through DNA evidence.
Police are currently investigating Fitzpatrick’s last known whereabouts, and whether she had any connection to a suspect arrested in connection with Hache’s murder.
Adam Strong, 45, of Oshawa, is charged with indecent interference to a body in connection to Hache’s remains.
