Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined Premier Kathleen Wynne and Toronto Mayor John Tory and a host of other dignitaries on Friday to cut the ribbon on the York-Spadina subway line.
The 8.6 km. extension will introduce six new stations to the York-Spadina line, stopping at York University, Downsview Park, Finch West, Pioneer Village, Highway 407 and Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.
Speaking at the event, Premier Wynne, the former Minister of Transportation, credited Steven Del Duca, the current minister, with being one of the driving forces behind the opening.
“It’s no small feat that we are standing here today. All levels of government have come together to attach the heart of Vaughan to the centre of Toronto and that’s a great connection,” she said.
Wynne also mentioned the future extension of the Finch West LRT which will expand all the way to Humber College North campus.
The extension opens to the public Sunday.
