More accusations have been lodged against an Etobicoke high school teacher already facing numerous child porn charges related to an arrest in October.
Gerard McGilly, 46, of Toronto, who formerly taught english at Bishop Allen Academy,
was re-arrested and charged on November 30 with: two new counts of luring a child under 18; two counts of making child pornography; and sexual exploitation, along with numerous other child porn related offences.
“As a result of our original news release, numerous individuals contacted us to provide information on Mr. McGilly.” said Detective Sgt. Paul Karwczyk of the child exploitation section with Toronto Police services sex crimes, in a press conference held at the Toronto Police service headquarters Monday morning.
“We have now charged Mr. Mcgilly [after identifying] two other victims who have come forward.”
Investigators allege that McGilly used social media to communicate with minors under the aliases ‘thepiratebuddha”, “poppaship” and “mrmcteacher.” They also allege that McGilly sent pornographic images to them on several occasions.
McGilly, who was released from his previous arrest after paying a $5,000 bail, has since been removed from his teaching position.
According to police, McGilly has been a secondary school teacher for the Toronto Catholic District School Board since 2008, and worked as an educational assistant with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District prior. Police say he was a beloved teacher who had the trust of many students.
The TCDSB said they are prioritizing the safety of their students.
“We want to reassure our parents and students that these allegations are not reflective of the caring and compassionate teaching professionals who work in our schools,” a statement from the Board reads.
“The safety and wellbeing of all students remains our top priority. We will have counsellors available to any students and staff who may need support.”

Karwczyk said police are concerned there might be more victims who are reluctant to come forward.
“Your emotional, social, physical well-being are the most important things right now,” he said.
“Likewise, If you are a witness in this matter, please come forward now, so that you may support those who are struggling with what happened to them. We are here when your ready.”
There are now a total of three confirmed victims.
McGilly is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing Monday afternoon.
