Striking Ontario college faculty members have voted against ending the strike, which is now in its fifth week.

The College Employer Council (CEC) forced a vote last week that took place over the last two days. Had the deal been accepted by faculty, students would have been back in the classroom as early as Tuesday of next week. OPSEU encouraged its union members to vote ‘no’ to reject the offer.

Premier Kathleen Wynne said in a statement that she plans to meet with both the colleges and OPSEU to get the strike to an end.

“Students have been in the middle of this strike for too long and it’s not fair. This afternoon I will be meeting representatives of the College Employer Council (CEC) and OPSEU to discuss how we can resolve this situation immediately and get students back to class where they belong.  We are looking at all of our options, but I am hopeful that an agreement to return students to class immediately can be reached by the parties.”

More to come.
