Child dies after left in hot car in Etobicoke

A child under the age of five years old has died after being left by themselves in a hot vehicle in Etobicoke, CP24 and CTV Toronto are reporting.

Emergency crews rushed the child to Trillium Health Partners Hospital in Mississauga shortly before 2 p.m. when the child was located by police. The child was pronounced dead less than 45 minutes later.

The vehicle was on the border of Mississauga and Etobicoke near Burnhamthorpe Rd. and Hwy. 427.

Toronto Police said one person is in custody, but won’t release a name or how they’re related to the child. The investigation is ongoing.
