Drake, The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes lead 2017 Juno nominations

The 2017 Juno nominations were unveiled Tuesday morning at Toronto’s Rebel Nightclub.

Canadian artists who are dominating the charts will be recognized on April 2, as well as newer artists making their breakthrough.

Drake, The Weeknd, and Shawn Mendes have five nominations each, and Alessia Cara and Leonard Cohen are up for four, according to the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Juno organizers announced that Cara will be performing, as well as A Tribe Called Red, The Strumbellas, Mendes, and Ruth B.

The Strumbellas were almost at a loss for words after hearing of their nomination.

The Juno Fan Choice Award is open for voting, and includes Alessia Cara, Belly, Drake, Hedley, Justin Bieber, Ruth B, Shawn Mendes, The Strumbellas, The Weeknd, and Tory Lanez.

Fans can vote here or tweet using specific hashtags for their favourite artist.

A tribute will be dedicated to Sarah McLachlan as she is being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame this year.

Michael Bublé is scheduled to host the show in Ottawa as part of Canada’s 150-year anniversary. The show will take place at the Canadian Tire Centre.
