There will be a clean up in the Humber Arboretum Wednesday.

The Humber Arboretum and the Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) are teaming up to clean up garbage along the shore of the Humber River.
The event will take place on Wednesday at 12p.m.
Organizers say that it’s important to keep the area clean and are excited to see what the 45-minute clean up accomplishes.
“It’s very visually impactful because you’re going to look at the site before and then you’re going to come out and be like wow,” said Jimmy Vincent, Coordinator of Education, Camps and Community Outreach.
“We love having students have places to hang out in the forest because it’s special. Those are places where you’re forming memories.”
A couple weeks ago, Vincent went for a little tour around the Humber Arboretum pin-pointing areas that needed to be cleaned up. He said that along the Humber River, there isn’t as much garbage this time of year compared to the spring where the garbage will start to build up.
Vincent says that there’s a popular hangout spot at the bottom of the hill that accumulates garbage and gets pretty dirty. He also said because it’s not a stretched out area, it won’t take as long to clean up.
The Humber Arboretum is approximately 101 hectares and home to over 1,700 species of plants and animals.
Vincent says that the event is a way to focus on the Humber community and showcase a current issue while bringing enlightenment to it.
Volunteers should be dressed in clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty and don’t have to bring anything extra. Pickers, gloves and garbage bags will be provided.
They are asked to meet at the Centre for Urban Ecology in the Humber Arboretum at – located at the back of Humber North Campus beside the residence buildings. The Centre for Urban Ecology is the building with the bright red door.
