The book of Negroes is enjoying massive success on CBC. Author of the 2007 novel and co-writer for the miniseries, Lawrence Hill shares his inspiration and the message he hopes to convey.
Locally, Ryerson University students produce a thesis film that chronicles two African-American brothers as they attempt to escape the crime surrounded streets of 1970’s Brooklyn, NY. The official teaser can be found on vimeo and the premiere of “Mannish Boy” will be at the RUFF film festival coming up in April.
Coming up for Black History Month, the Toronto Black film festival offers a refreshing and dynamic festival that promotes film focusing on the realities of the Black community around the world.
