MP Eve Adams crossed the floor to join the Liberals this morning in a surprise announcement with Liberal leader Justin Trudeau.

Timothy Woolstencroft, managing partner at The Strategic Counsel, told Humber News MPs crossing the floor does not significantly impact voter swings in elections.

“There are many examples of people crossing but it’s unclear whether it will be a good move,” he said.

Woolstencroft said the move has at least short-term benefits for the Liberals because Adams was a prominent MP.

“It’s an injection of momentum for Trudeau,” he said.

Woolstencroft said the announcement throws Conservatives into questionable territory because it follows Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird’s resignation from his position last Tuesday.

“There is a sense that Harper runs a one-man show, that there isn’t any room for anyone else,” he said. “This is going to put more attention and more spotlight on how he governs.”
