Mother Up! is set to shift the focus of animated productions tonight by moving away from male driven topics and placing a female in charge.

The 13 episode, adult animated series was created by Desperate Housewives’ star Eva Longoria, bring her edginess to the small screen once again.

Longoria is hoping to bring a “female-oriented” show to your household, in comparison to aforementioned shows like Family Guy and American Dad, which have a male lead.

Rudi Wilson, the main character voiced by Longoria, is a former music executive who moves from Manhattan to the suburbs without a husband or nanny, while raising her two children.

Katie Torpey, Mother Up! co-creator told Hulu, “We’re exposing the truth about what’s happening and what’s really going on for moms.”

Torpey’s statement may trigger some controversy for women watching the show tonight; who may not completely agree with her general analysis of single motherhood.

Mother Up! is developed by Rogers Media and co-produced by Canadian companies Breakthrough Entertainment and  Bardel Entertainment.

Claire Freeland, Director of Original Programming at Rogers Media said in a press release that Mother Up! is the perfect addition to the premium City lineup.

“Smart and hilarious, Mother Up! epitomizes the kind of comedy that City’s prime-time schedule is famous for,” said Freeland.

City has an impressive lineup of comedy series in the past, such as Modern Family, which has been renewed for a fifth season.

Actress Gabrielle Miller, who voices Rudi’s best friend, did many press stops across Canada to promote the show. With the magic of television, Miller said in an interview that she records her voice from a studio in Toronto while Longoria records in Los Angeles.

The series has already been streaming online across the U.S. through the digital streaming service Hulu, when it made its debut in Nov. 2013.

Mother Up! premieres Thurs. Jan. 23 at 9 p.m. ET on City.
