Animal lovers gathered in downtown Toronto on Friday to raise awareness for what they see as the imminent extinction of the elephant.

The International March for Elephants, which took place in fifteen cities across the globe, was set up to bring to light the startling facts about the extinction of the giant. According to the March’s website, one elephant dies every 15 minutes — a rate that could see the extinction of elephants as soon as 2025.

The march came to life in September 2012, and was created by The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

Kerrisa Wilson was on hand at the march.
