Police are investigating a shooting that left two men injured in Toronto’s entertainment district early Thursday morning.

“It is an ongoing investigation under 14 Division and is being monitored by the homicide division,” said Const. Wendy Drummond of Toronto Police Services.

There are two victims in their early twenties, one with a life threatening injury and other with a non-life threatening injury, she said.

Both the victims were found on the sidewalk at King and Portland streets at around 2:30 a.m., 680 News reported Thursday.

Earlier, Toronto police had informed the media on scene that both of the victims have been shot multiple times, one with a head injury is in critical condition, while the other victim, shot at his back is expected to survive.

“Yellow police tape surrounds the entire intersection of King and Portland right now, you can’t get anywhere near the north side of the intersection,” CBC News reporter Trevor Dunn told CBC.ca from the scene early Thursday morning.

Dunn also reported about seeing shell-casings on the sidewalk.

Police have not made any arrest yet.

King Street West was closed to traffic in both directions between Bathurst Street and Spadina Avenue overnight. Traffic the area was cleared to traffic after 7:30 a.m., the CBC reported.

The Entertainment District is part of the police area known as 14 Division. Police statistics from 2011 show that there were 15 such incidents in involving shootings in the entire division.

This year, within the first three months, there have already been five such incidents in the area.
