Today is the last day of classes before Reading Week. We asked students what their plans are for the much-deserved break.
There are plenty of trip packages available to many tropical destinations.
If you are looking to make other last minute travel plans for Reading Week, US News said some of the hottest (and cheapest) destinations for Spring Break 2013 include: Puerto Rico, Daytona, Cancun, Punta Cana, and Playa del Carmen.
But if you are looking for something more meaningful to do with your time off, some recommend taking a ‘service trip.’ Erin Patterson wrote the trips provide a variety of options of locations and emphases. The trips vary in costs, but the fee covers housing, transportation and most meals, depending on where you go.
Some Humber and Guelph-Humber students will be donating their time and work to Orphanage Outreach in the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Orleans. On their website, organizers say participants will gain valuable leadership and team building skills, enhanced self-esteem, a sense of global citizenship, and a true feeling of making a difference.
At Ryerson University, there is a student-run group called Alternative Spring Break that describes alternative Reading Week trips as “traveling with a purpose.” Students volunteer their time and work in developing countries while experiencing and learning about different cultures. The group started in 2006 and will be traveling to Kenya this Reading Week.
