Charles Sousa is one of six Liberal candidates who wants to be the province’s next premier Ontario. He will find out of he’s the one this Sunday Jan. 27.

Premier Dalton McGuinty resigned from his position in Oct. 15 last year.

According to Sousa’s biography page, he was raised and still lives in south Mississauga, in a community called Clarkson with his wife Zenny and three children. Charles graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration  in 1982.

His website says he spent 20 years working at the RBC financial group. While there, he lead and initiated RBC in its corporate social responsibility policy, which is a form of corporate self regulation.

Sousa was elected to the Ontario Legislature in 2007. During his career in politics he  also served as the Minister of Labour and of the  Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. He was re-elected into the Ontario Legislature in 2011.

Since coming into office, Sousa said on his website he has been a big advocate for air quality and power generation. He said on his website he has taken those issues to the Mississauga city council , attended rallies as well as working with residents and community leaders.

He was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, which is awarded to people who make outstanding contributions in the communities or to Canada, in 2003 for all his services.

Sousa said on his website he has many ideas as how to help the province, including the creation of jobs and an increase in transportation for people who live up in northern Ontario.

The Liberal Convention started today and runs until Sunday when it is expected the balloting among 1,837 delegates will be finished and the next provincial Liberal leader and the premier will be named.
