According to an active Loma Linda University study, vegetarians and vegans can expect to live up to almost a decade longer than meat eaters.

The study says diets consisting of lots of fruits and vegetables are high in fiber which helps to prolong the rate of life expectancy.

The study is now midway to being completed and looks at 96,000 participants from the United States and Canada.

Humber reporter Jeanette Liu spoke to Humber’s fitness centre to talk about the promises of a vegetable based diet.
