A bright-pink tour bus is offering a ride that can save lives.

The Pink Tour Bus is giving a new spin to breast cancer awareness by taking the information directly to women, Kathleen Gotts, senior manager of health communication with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, told Humber News.

The bus was most recently spotted at the CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday. Here are pictures from the event on Humber News.

The Pink Tour has been travelling across Ontario since May and will end its tour this month.

“We’ve visited over 90 communities and so far we’ve had 32,000 people through the pink bus,” said Gotts.

She said the main purpose of the initiative is to inform women about the importance of breast cancer screening.

“In the last 30 years, the death rate from breast cancer has dropped almost 40 per cent and screening is one of the main reasons for that,” said Gotts.

Along with information on breast health and ways to reduce chances of breast cancer, the tour bus is also giving access to mammograms.

Women 50-years-old and over can sign up for the Ontario breast-screening program right on the bus.

To promote cancer awareness in younger generations, CIBC offered the Post-Secondary Challenge for the second year, said Christina Kramer, executive vice president at the bank at the event.

The bank will award the top post-secondary fundraisers with funds for their education, said Kramer.

In total there will be 15 $2,500 prizes awarded to post-secondary students.
