Whether you’re a fan of the holiday or not, Valentine’s Day hits Toronto this weekend.

Falling on Sunday this year, Toronto will have events across the city that don’t just appeal to couples who adore this day of love. With over 200 events happening, there’s something for single people looking to mix it up, couples, kids, pet lovers and even those that hate V-Day.

Battle Sports, a recreational facility in North York, is hosting an Anti-Valentine’s mixer for people can’t stand the day, or anything related to it.

This mixer will give you the chance try archery, smash things and bash the day in good company. Battle Sports even has a designated Rage Room, meant for you to take out your frustrations on breakable objects. On Sunday you can use this room to smash some lovey-dovey mugs and vases. The event will also host their own live edition of The Dating Game, where people sit divided by screens and answer questions to see if they have a connection.

Andrea Lo, Marketing Director at Battle Sports, told Humber News about their unique twist on the romantic day.

“Instead of your regular Valentine’s Day event, with the type of activities we offer, why not do a spin on it and do an Anti V-Day mixer where we can shoot cupids and smash Valentine’s paraphernalia, all while encouraging singles to mix and mingle.”

The event is almost sold out of tickets, and Lo says the event has been gaining momentum with media as well.

“People are going to have fun going against the grain of Valentine’s, but still make some friends from the event, and who knows, perhaps even find love,” said Lo.

Hooked on the idea of more of a traditional way to spend the evening? The Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada in downtown Toronto is hosting their first 19+ event this weekend, a Deep Sea Soirée.

Lauren Chan, the Marketing and Communications associate for Ripley’s, says guests are invited to an intimate (and exclusive) underwater adventure. The soiree features a DJ, light h’orderves, drinks and complimentary photos.

“In addition to Valentine’s Day décor, there will also be themed dive shows for the perfect photo opp,” Chan told Humber News.
