The Art Awakens is now accepting submissions from all Humber College creatives who want to show their artistic flair.

“The Humber Art Show is an annual event that was created to recognize, celebrate and showcase all artistic talent at Humber,” said chair of The Art Awakens and public relations student at Humber college, Rebecca Kennedy, adding that this is an opportunity for all students to create something unique.

The Humber Students’ Federation sponsored event has taken place for nearly 30 years and is organized by second-year public relations advanced diploma students.

In previous years, art jurors have said many of the pieces submitted have reached or exceed professional artistic standards.

Director of student events, Maggie Hobbs, said the show has seen spectacular pieces and students have the ability to create professional work.

“We’ve been told that the quality of the art submitted is at a museum quality. To hear that coming from experts in the (artistic) field about our submissions is truly amazing,” she said.

“It (the event) crosses all spectrums in all campuses and that’s the reason why I keep coming back,” she said, adding that the students have excelled at promoting the submission deadlines and is optimistic about the upcoming showcase.

“I love this event, it’s one of my favourites,” she said. ” I like it because students from any discipline can submit art, it’s not specific to the visual arts or photography students. Any student can submit art for this show.”

Submissions close March 24 and students can win up to $1,150 in cash prizes.
