In the modern age of technology, having a private life can feel like a virtual dream, at least to some.

The campaigns for the Oct. 19 federal election kicked off this summer, leading to numerous instances of candidates being thrust into the news out because of comments they made online.

This timeline documents various gaffes from party officials and candidates, many of whom had to resign.
