Remembrance Day, which falls on Monday Nov. 11, will see Toronto host many services to honour the sacrifice of Canadian veterans who gave their lives for our freedom.

The ceremonies are all similar, according to Nancy MacSween, Manager of Events for the City of Toronto, but the biggest commemoration will take place around Old City Hall in downtown Toronto.

MacSween added that though the downtown service will be the largest, the East York ceremony is nearly as large and features special tributes to the veterans.

“A component of the East York Remembrance Day service is a parade,” said MacSween. “It’s a short march from East York Collegiate that departs the collegiate somewhere between 10:30 and 10:40 to arrive at the memorial garden just around 10:45/10:50.”

No matter where the veterans’ efforts are celebrated in the city, MacSween said the ceremonies have remained fairly consistent through the years.

“What we have done is tried to just make them a bit more so they follow the same program as a unified City of Toronto service,” said MacSween.
