The grand opening of the LGBTQ and Resource Centre drew a crowd on Thursday at Humber College’s North Campus.

Students and staff gathered for the ribbon cutting and speeches, celebrating the hard work of students and staff.

Thomas Silcox-Childs, an HR Analyst at Humber told Humber News he has long fought for the opening of the Resource Centre.

“We’re trying to see how we can queer the curriculum, or help support teachers and faculty,” said Silcox-Childs.

“I have a place where I can be celebrated now,” he said.

President and CEO of Humber College, Chris Whitaker, said “by creating dedicated space it’s more of a visible commitment of our support for LGBTQ students and staff.”

The centre was filled with rainbow themed decorations and rainbow coloured cupcakes.
