Humber’s annual Walk it Out fashion show, titled Haute Humber, showcased the collections of several Canadian designers on Tuesday.
The event highlighted Toronto-made apparel from the clothing lines of seven creators, which included Angela Demontigny. Her line was such a success with the audience that she plans to make a return next year.
“I am so impressed. I’d love to make an appearance next year. I’m here for life now,” Demontigny said.
Humber’s fashion arts and business school students organized the event with the help of Jennifer Dawson, one of the program’s professors and coordinators.
“We’re very happy about the outcome. We’re very excited about the collaboration between Fashion Business and the media studies students,” Dawson said.
The night was sponsored by several people and institutions from the fashion industry including HOLR magazine, and designer Matthew Nyman of Matty’s Fab Avenue. Nyman said he attended the event to celebrate the talent within Canadian fashion.
“Just everything about fashion is inspiring. I’m so happy to be part of this industry,” Nyman said.
The annual fashion show is such an anticipated event for Humber that students from previous years returned as volunteers just to take part in the evening.
Devanshi Choksi, a graduate Humber fashion arts, came back from India a few months ago to help organize the event one more time.
“We’ve been organizing this for many months now. The rehearsals were amazing and I know people are going to love it,” said Choksi.
She said her involvement is thanks to Jennifer Dawson, and the success she previously had in the fashion program. Since graduating, the international student has continued her fashion career back home in India.
“Fashion is everything for me,” Choksi said. “I’ve been studying for five years now, and I just love it.”
The show hosted designer Medjy-Meme who is also a Humber Fashion Arts alum. The other designers included Toronto’s Joseph Tassioni, Strauss, Xian, Rhowan James and Christopher Paunil. The Haute Humber fashion was the first to view their spring and summer 2018 collections for both men and women.
